STRANGE MILITARY TOMBSTONE TRADITIONS - WHAT A QUARTER LEFT ON TOP MEANS - A DIME

The TRUTH Behind Coins Left Behind On A Soldier’s Grave
What It Means To Put A Coin On A Soldier's Grave

If I asked you how much a quarter was worth, you'd probably reply, "Well, twenty-five cents, of course!" But in a story that's circulating around Facebook, a man who found a quarter on a soldier's grave soon learned it held a very different value.

Curious? Well, read on to see the special new meaning given to some old coins.

Like many inspiring movies and books, this short story may be fictional. However, the impact that this work will have on its readers is very real. Enjoy!

While "Cleaning of the Stones" at the National Cemetery in Holly. I noticed a quarter placed on one of the stones. Later I also noticed a nickel placed on another stone. I was so touched with this that I took pictures. (sorry the nickel did not turn out)

I googled about the coins, and found this out. I am very proud to share this.

A coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier's family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect.

Leaving a penny means you visited. A nickel means that you and the deceased soldier trained at boot camp together. If you served with the soldier, you leave a dime. A quarter is very significant because it means that you were there when that soldier died.

I AM VERY PROUD TO SHARE THIS.

Further research suggests this "tradition" is not recognized in any kind of official capacity by the military, per say. Rather it likely was started as someone's personal way to honor fallen soldiers. And with posts like the one above circulating the internet, I'm sure it's a tradition more and more folks will start practicing.

God bless the brave men and women who serve our country, and who sacrifice so much so that we can be free!

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
